Our Education Programme in the Kamuli area of Uganda has now been running for 10 years, when we started by placing a number of orphans and underprivileged children in some specially selected local primary schools. Then as time passed, they progressed into secondary schools and we continued recruiting at the primary level.
Our Sponsored Education Programme
As Annette says in our video: “Educate a child and you educate a whole village.”
We would not be able to do this without the help of our generous sponsors, who are mainly in the UK. However, we do have some Polish sponsors and the Signum Foundation in Poland provides us with a special sponsorship for one of our brightest students.
Vocational Training
Over time we realised that it was not enough to educate the children at school. As important was to provide further education… so that our students could get a training so that they could work and earn a living.
We have introduced our Vocational Training Programme – so we now we have engineers, motor mechanics, builders, tailors and nurses earning a living out in the community.
University
We are delighted to announce that two of our sponsored students did so well in their end of secondary school exams that they were able to attend The University of Kyambogo in Kampala.
Orphan James ‘Kim’ Wakabi – who has been in our Programme since primary school – has completed a BSc in Technical Engineering and Namuddu Sharifa a degree in Management Science. Both students have now graduated and are working in Uganda.
Our other success story is Jonathan Oketayot, who has had a special sponsorship from the Signum Foundation in Poland since secondary school. He did extremely well in his school exams and The Signum Foundation went on to sponsor him through his Law Degree at the prestigious University of Dar es Salaam. He has represented his University at a number of conferences in Africa during this time.
We are delighted that Jonathan will be graduating later this year and that the Signum Foundation is to carry on their Scholarship with us, to support other gifted students with their further educational and vocational studies.
